Johannesburg - Having compressed the league season to accommodate Bafana Bafana's training camps, heavy rains and CAF fixtures may derail the Premier Soccer League's plans.
Five matches have already been postponed due to have rains with some of those set to be played on December 22 and 23.
The first round of the CAF African Champions League will be played between February 12-14, around the time where the league will be nearing its end.
PSL Chief Operating Officer Ronnie Schloss told The Times: "We cannot predict what will happen in the coming weeks and we may have to extend the season based on the events of the last two weeks.
"But stretching the schedule will be our very last option and we are hopeful everything will go according to the original plan.
"We have planned for CAF fixtures and are not too worried about the continental club competitions."
Schloss also explained the use of Durban's Moses Mabhida by some teams including Kaizer Chiefs.
"A PSL sub-committee has approved the playing of the match in Durban. One reason is to take the pressure off Johannesburg pitches. Durban was always Chiefs' alternative home ground.
"Stadiums are limited in Johannesburg and you will find SuperSport (United), (Mamelodi) Sundowns and Chiefs sharing Loftus Stadium."
