Johannesburg - The Premier Soccer League (PSL) has become the first league in the world to own copyright for betting on its fixtures, chairperson Irvin Khoza announced on Friday.
"I'm happy to announce that from today at about 11am, the PSL now owns the copyright of betting on the fixtures," Khoza said at the PSL headquarters in Johannesburg.
"It's a good story to tell. We have officially become the only league in the world to achieve this milestone."
The deal meant any betting firms that wanted to distribute rights to bet on PSL fixtures would have to pay the soccer body a monetary amount.
This is similar to that of broadcasters that pay the PSL to screen matches.
