PSL in the market for a CEO

2010-11-03 18:02

Johannesburg - The Premier Soccer League are in the market for a new CEO but the candidate will have to meet strict criteria.

Kjetil Siem is the incumbent but his contract's forthcoming expiration means he will leave the PSL at the end of the current season.

The chairperson of the league, Irvin Khoza, revealed the candidate will have to boast a specific profile to fit the bill.

"His [Siem's] contract has been extended until December and he will stay with the PSL until the end of the season. But we are still clear on finding a CEO who is black, coloured or Indian," said The Iron Duke.

"We want someone with marketing flair and many talents."

Kaizer Motaung, Mato Madlala and John Comitis, who own Kaizer Chiefs, Golden Arrows and Ajax Cape Town will sit on the panel that is tasked with finding Siem's replacement.

Basically the PSL is looking for someone who is corrupt or corruptable...should be easy to find, there's probably a queue outside the PSL offices right now.

So what they are saying is that there is no place for a white person in SA soccer - what is otherwise referred to as transformation (ie. the black person's term for what is really reverse racism). Was it not so long ago that these very people were saying they need to do more to attract young white players into the sport? Has it also not been said that soccer in this country had long been "transformed" (unlike rugby, cricket and the like) and as such affirmative action was not necessary anymore? Tokenest statements to say the very least. Well if they have no desire to want white people involved in their sport then I let my feet do the talking and I keep my wallet firmly in my pocket when it comes to supporting SA soccer.

Question : Are we looking for a color or a person who will take a psl to a greater height? Is this fair to quote a race? what will happen if someone could say we need to have an Indian President during next elections?

Why must it be a person of colour and not a white. This is the NEW SOUTH AFRICA and we are suppose to look past the colour issue.

  • Notbee - 2010-11-04 09:08

I agree with Vernon. If the powers that be had half a brain cell, they would market the sport to every South African. Perhaps then pale skinned soccer lovers would also feel like they are part of the sport and go to matches. This is pure and blatant racism by the PSL grass cutters.

I don't know why you guys are making a big issue here the General Manager of the PSL is indeed white Dereck Blackensee so it only fittin =g that there is a racial balance and yes there capable people in these other races other than white people well for PSL its good that they are doing that.

Why did they hire a White GM in the first place? Do they want him to have a close at what the EE appointee is doing. I support the idea of Black CEO, but I don't understand how this guys (PSL thugs) operate. What is the rationale of appointing GM before the CEO? These guys have been appointing White CEO since they expelled the capable Mr Ndhlela.
