Most local players’ contracts expire on Tuesday and the most well-guarded secrets will be revealed on Wednesday when clubs confirm their new signings.

While some clubs have already revealed their latest acquisitions, most deals have been kept secret, as players still have contracts with their current clubs.

Top Danish side FC Copenhagen could hijack former Kaizer Chiefs captain Tefu Mashamaite’s rumoured move to Mamelodi Sundowns.

Mashamaite has always been linked with a move to the Brazilians. He’s seen as Alje Schut’s replacement.

After failing to re-sign former player Siyanda Xulu, Sundowns have earmarked Mashamaite as the ideal replacement for Schut. Xulu was unveiled as a new Chiefs player last week.

But on Friday, Mashamaite’s business manager, Jazzman Mahlakgane, revealed that Copenhagen had made enquiries about the 30-year-old’s availability.

However, Mahlakgane was quick to point out that nothing had come of that as yet.

“I don’t want to talk about something that is not concrete. It was just an enquiry after Chiefs said they were not going to renew his contract.

“I am still busy working underground trying to secure his future, but we are not in a hurry,” said Mahlakgane.

Chances are Itumeleng Khune and Mandla Masango could remain at Amakhosi if their latest interaction with the club is anything to go by. They have both, however, been linked with a move to Sundowns too.

Chiefs manager Bobby Motaung said the pair returned to the club’s base in Naturena on Monday, but were given some time off to rethink their futures.

Khune and Masango’s contracts end on Tuesday.

Sundowns have already signed Burundian striker Fiston Abdul Razak, who they rate highly.

Also this week, Orlando Pirates unveiled five new players, but more are expected to join the Buccaneers.

Pirates have acquired former Polokwane City midfielder Roger Majafa; Tendai Ndoro from Mpumalanga Black Aces; Felipe Ovono from Equatorial Guinea; Gift Motupa, Baroka FC’s former captain; Luvuyo Memela from Cape Town All Stars; and Thembinkosi Lorch of Maluti FET College.

Free State Stars have signed Tanzanian striker Mrisho Ngasa from Young Africans Sports Club, while Bidvest Wits have captured Daine Klate from SuperSport United and Nazeer Allie from Ajax.

As revealed by City Press last weekend, the tug-of-war between Chiefs and Bloemfontein Celtic over Togolese striker Camaldine Abraw is set to go before the Premier Soccer League’s dispute resolution chamber on Tuesday.
