PSL announce award nominees

Cape Town - The Premier Soccer League have unveiled the nominees for the PSL Awards with Tefu Mashamaite and Teko Modise headlining the nominations list.

Kaizer Chiefs captain Tefu Mashamaite has been nominated in four categories - Defender of the Season, Players' Player of the Season and Footballer of the Season as well as for MTN8 Last Man Standing - after having securing the MTN8 crown last year and the Absa Premiership title.

Teko Modise also picks up three nominations for Midfielder of the Season, Players' Player of the Season and Nedbank Cup Player of the Tournament which Mamelodi Sundowns are set to face Ajax Cape Town in the final on Saturday, May 16.

The Premier Soccer League Awards will take place on the May 17 at Sandton Convention Centre.

The live show will kick-off at 20:00, however there will be a red-carpet moment before that starting at 18:30.

Nominees for the PSL Awards

Coach of the Season: Stuart Baxter (Kaizer Chiefs), Pitso Mosimane (Mamelodi Sundowns) and Kosta Papic (Polokwane City)

Young Player of the Season: Rivaldo Coetzee (Ajax Cape Town), Phumlani Ntshangase (Bidvest Wits) and Abbubaker Mobara (Ajax Cape Town)

The Absa-lutely Awesome Goal of the Season: Aubrey Ngoma (Orlando Pirates), David Zulu (Kaizer Chiefs) and Menzi Masuku (Orlando Pirates)

Defender of the Season: Thulani Hlatshwayo (Bidvest Wits), Tefu Mashamaite (Kaizer Chiefs) and Eric Mathoho (Kaizer Chiefs)

Midfielder of the Season: Teko Modise (Mamelodi Sundowns), Cole Alexander (Polokwane City) and Willard Katsande (Kaizer Chiefs)

Top Goal Scorer of the Season: Moeketsi Sekola (Free State Stars)

Goalkeeper of the Season: Anssi Jaakkola (Ajax Cape Town), Patrick Tignyemb (Bloemfontein Celtic) and Moeneeb Josephs (Bidvest Wits) 

Players’ Player of the Season: Tefu Mashamaite (Kaizer Chiefs), Teko Modise (Mamelodi Sundowns) and Eric Mathoho (Kaizer Chiefs)

Footballer of the Season: Eric Mathoho (Kaizer Chiefs), Cole Alexander (Polokwane City) and Tefu Mashamaite (Kaizer Chiefs)

MTN8 Last Man Standing: Tefu Mashamaite, George Maluleka and Mandla Masango (All Kaizer Chiefs)

Telkom Knock Out 2014 Player of the Season: Thuso Phala (SuperSport United), Dove Wome (SuperSport United) and Siyabonga Mpontshane (Orlando Pirates)

Nedbank Cup Player of the Tournament: Tashreeq Morris (Ajax Cape Town), Teko Modise (Mamelodi Sundowns) and David Mathebula (SuperSport United)

Nedbank Cup Young Player of the Tournament: Tashreeq Morris, Bantu Mzwakali and Riyaad Norodien (All Ajax Cape Town)

NFD Top Goal Scorer of the Season: Phumelele Bhengu (Thanda Royal Zulu)

Referee of the Season: Phillip Tinyani, Kulasande Gqonqo and Robert Smith
