Okpara impressed with Mhlongo

Cape Town - Legendary Orlando Pirates goalkeeper William Okpara is delighted with the progress of Brighton Mhlongo, who has been the club’s first choice goalkeeper since the tragic death of Senzo Meyiwa.

The Nigerian, who has occupied different positions since retiring at Pirates, including the one of goalkeeper coach, said Mhlongo suffered a lot after Meyiwa passed away.

“It was very difficult for the boy after we lost Senzo, and it took him time to be at his best, and I’m happy with his performance at the moment,” Okpara told Sport24.

“He has been very brave for Pirates in the Confederations’ Cup and he has a bright future ahead of him.”

The Legendary goalkeeper said he never doubted Mhlongo’s abilities, but was aware how the player was suffering after Meyiwa’s death.

“They were brothers, Meyiwa was more his role model and senior, and his death really affected him, but I’m glad that today he has proved to everyone that he is a good goalkeeper,” said the retired goalkeeper.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
