Cape Town - AmaZulu general manager, Peter O'Connor, says he is well aware of reports claiming the club have purchased Mpumalanga Black Aces' Premiership status, but was unable to clarify the situation.
Usuthu are believed to have struck an R84m deal to take AmaZayoni's place in the top-flight next term, with Black Aces then going down to the National First Division, where AmaZulu were set to play after suffering relegation.
"There has been no substantiations that the matter has been finalised so I cannot comment on the issue," O'Connor said in response to questions about the proposed deal.
He admits that he was aware of rumours linking the club to the purchase of current Premier Soccer League clubs.
"You know as I say there has been rumours that we have bought a status but I cannot comment on that at this point in time," he explained.
In the meantime, O'Connor says the team have to prepare for life in the National First Division (NFD).
"We are continuing as if we have NFD status. We have retrenched some players and staff to cut costs," he added.
The squad returns to training on Monday under coach Steve Barker.
"We have under-23 trials next week and we just need to keep preparing for the NFD at this stage," O'Connor concluded.
