Nyandoro likes perfect start

Johannesburg - Esrom Nyandoro wants Mamelodi Sundowns to continue their blistering start to the season by sinking Orlando Pirates on Saturday.

The Brazilians have collected maximum points in all four of their league encounters thus far, but face their biggest test in the form of the Buccaneers.

Ruud Krol's men will be buoyed by their successful MTN8 campaign, which saw them lift a major trophy after a seven-year drought.

But the Sundowns skipper is eager to see his team-mates keep up their flawless start to the season at Lucas Moripe Stadium.

"Neither team has lost a league match since the season kicked off, but the Sundowns players are hoping to walk away smiling on Saturday," Nyandoro said at the club's open day.

"This season has been one of the rare occasions where we find ourselves on top of the log having won four games in a row.

"They got a good lift from getting some silverware and they have managed to produce a decent outing. They have top players - especially in midfield - who have begun to click and work together as a team."

Pirates will be missing a key player in the form of Isaac Chansa, who is suspended due to the totting up of yellow cards.

But Nyandoro does not feel the absence of the Zambian will be a big blow for Bucs.

"If they are thin in midfield, then the same would apply to us, because Papi Zothwane might not recover in time to be part of the squad that plays Pirates," he said.

Meanwhile, Sundowns striker Katlego Mphela is finally hoping to open his account against Krol's side. 'Killer' has been in sensational form over the past year and is keen to keep hitting the back of the net.

"I have scored two goals in four games and it's not bad at all. There will obviously be pressure but I will just keep working hard and sticking to the basics," he concluded.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
