No rest for Chiefs' stars

Johannesburg - Vladimir Vermezovic insists he will not rest any of Kaizer Chiefs' big-name players for the midweek round of PSL fixtures, despite the MTN8 semi-final second-leg encounter on Saturday.

Amakhosi played out a drab 0-0 draw in the first-leg against Ajax Cape Town at the weekend, and Vermezovic's men are now set to clash with Bidvest Wits in the Absa Premiership on Wednesday.

And although Chiefs will travel to Cape Town for the decisive leg this weekend, the coach has laughed off suggestions he could rest some star players for the clash against the Clever Boys.

"Why, do you rest from your job?" Vermezovic told the Sunday Tribune.

"A game is two hours long, why are they going to rest? They are paid to play, not rest."

With all the depth problems in your team you have no choice if you want to win. Resting your stars would mean 3 points gone.

Give that man a Bells! My Coach has spoken and we saw how resting players hampers our league progress last season. . .!

common guys how can u say this is being clever..! If VV rests his big guns and happen to lose 3pts, he can alwys make up for the 3pts. but if he doesn't rest his big guns and lose saturday's semi's... will he be able to make up for that anytime this season????? hah didin't think so.!!! - PIRATES FAN

well sometimes coach it is necessary to rest your star players but depending on where your priorities are. if you want to win this cup, you should know that if something like an injury was to happen to your influencial players as a result of a midweek game, that can affect how your eventually perform against Ajax so planning is sometimes crucial.

Well, we need a strategy for this one. The coach may not rest players, but sometimes players do not commit themselves to a game before the one they rate as being more important. Before we humiliated Pirates (3-0) in the Telkom Knockout Final, we lost to Vasco on Wednesday. There are so many players who don't get a chance to play. We rather field these players rather than playing players who will be thinking about the Saturday game.
