No issue with Igesund - Mahlangu

Johannesburg - Following his surprise announcement of retiring from all forms of soccer, Jabu Mahlangu reveals that Gordon Igesund had no affect on his decision.

Igesund arrived at United after the sacking of Cavin Johnson and within a matter of days Mahlangu opted to jump on the opportunity that Stan Matthews [SuperSport CEO] and the Multichoice Diski Challenge put forward for him.

“Yeah, we never had any issues,” said Mahlangu.

“There’s no fights, there’s nothing – it’s just when they’ve launched this great initiative [Diski Challenge] already Stan told me, sooner or later I might have to think about hanging up my boots, so that I could get into the marketing side of the club.”

In an exclusive interview with News24 LIVE, the former SuperSport midfielder opens up about his past indiscretions and taking on ambassadorial roles at Matsatsantsa and the inaugural Diski Challenge.

“I didn't expect it to happen too soon honestly, because I only had two training sessions with Gordon.”

“I am happy, my wife is happy with the opportunity they’re giving us.”

“I feel that it is a lifetime opportunity they’re giving us – because soccer I was going to play one or two more seasons then I am done,” concluded Mahlangu.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
