Nkosi hobbled off to make way for Nhlanhla Sithole midway through the first half of a comprehensive 3-0 triumph over traditional rivals Maritzburg United at the Chatsworth Stadium on Sunday, after picking up an ankle injury.
This was as a result of a crunching tackle from United’s hard man John Aruwah, as Arrows completed a double over their KwaZulu-Natal rivals following a 3-1 victory over AmaZulu a fortnight ago.
According to the team’s doctor, Nkosi will miss at least three of the club’s next matches, starting with the crucial away fixture against Vasco da Gama at Athlone Stadium on Friday evening.
“I have just been to the team doctor, who discovered that my ankle twisted badly on impact from a tackle by Aruwah,” said Nkosi. “He advised that I should rest the ankle in order for the injury to heal properly.
“I cannot go against the doctor’s orders, and so that means I will miss Friday’s clash against Vasco da Gama as well as the crucial tie against Kaizer Chiefs at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on 2 February, and the away fixture against Free State Stars at Goble Park on 5 February.”
The man who once starred for Bloemfontein Celtic and Kaizer Chiefs, before earning a contract to ply his trade in Germany for Armina Bielefeld, revealed that he will just have to be strong and sit out the rehabilitation period until declared fit by the doctors to start playing again.
“Like I said, I am bitterly disappointed, but what can I do?” he asked. “These things happen in football, but what frustrates me is that I suffer this injury at a time when I felt I had regained my best form.”
Indeed, Nkosi has been a revelation in the heart of the Arrows midfield, and scoring some goals to signal that he was back to his best form following a frustrating period at SuperSport United, where he hardly made any impact after returning from Europe.
