Johannesburg - Kaizer Chiefs hero Nkosinathi Nhleko is delighted to have given Amakhosi fans an early Christmas present on Wednesday.
The Soweto giants managed to hold on against AmaZulu at Loftus after going down to ten men, with Itumuleng Khune dismissed for an illegal challenge on Usuthu captain Pere Ariweriyai.
Nhleko was the hero for Chiefs as he grabbed the only goal of the game and he admits that it was for the supporters.
The 30-year-old revealed after the game: "We knew that we needed to win this game and I think we did everything according to the instructions (from the coach).
"So I think we gave the fans their Christmas present today (Wednesday)."
The victory pushes Chiefs right into the thick of things in the title race following Mamelodi Sundowns' win over SuperSport United on Tuesday.
And the former Jomo Cosmos forward admits that the belief is still strong amongst the squad that they can go all the way and pip Matsatsantsa and the Brazilians to the league championship.
He added: "We have to believe in ourselves because we never know, football sometimes can go the other way.
"We believe. We thank Sundowns for beating SuperSport and it is open now."
