Cape Town - Bidvest Wits defender Siyabonga Nhlapho is of the conviction that Premiership leaders Kaizer Chiefs can still be caught this season, despite the 15-point lead that they currently enjoy.
Bidvest Wits are currently among the teams that are in the chasing pack in this season's Premiership, where they are in the third position, behind Mamelodi Sundowns on goal difference. If any of the Premiership teams are going to catch Chiefs, Wits would be one of them.
Nhlapo, now one of the senior players at Wits, has featured prominently in this campaign and on the evidence currently at his disposal, he does not think that the race for the title is over just yet.
"We have just returned from the AFCON break and all teams are eager to get off the mark," Nhlapo told goal.com.
"But we all know that the second round is the toughest. Teams are fighting for either to survive relegation or be in the top eight or win the league," added Nhlapo, who believes it is that very desire to win which will hold his team in good stead during the business end of the season.
"But for us, most definitely we want to catch up with Chiefs. If not that, we want to finish inside the top-four bracket.
"But I am confident that if all the teams work together hand-in-hand with other teams, we can catch up with them, although it won’t be easy."
Nhlapo also highlights the fact that Chiefs are expected to compete in the CAF Champions Legaue, Nedbank Cup and Premiership competitions. The schedule will be a busy one for the Soweto giants and that is something that the chasing pack hopes to exploit.
"There is also the Nedbank Cup and CAF Confederations, plus Champions League so it will be an intense second round for all teams participating in all three competitions (PSL, Nedbank Cup and CAF)," added Nhlapo.
