Neeskens: I'm not a quitter

Cape Town - Mamelodi Sundowns coach Johan Neeskens says he has no intention of stepping down, and has called on his players to accept responsibility for their shaky start to the season.

The Brazilians have looked well off the pace this term and find themselves down in 11th in the standings after claiming just three points from their opening three PSL matches.

The Tshwane giants also saw their MTN8 run come to an end at the semi-finals after losing 6-5 on aggregate to Moroka Swallows.

Neeskens, though, says he is not ready to throw in the towel, and hinted the squad needs to take responsibility for their performances.

"I don't quit because I'm not a quitter," the Dutchman told the supersport.com website.

"Everybody can be upset when they are not playing but the players who are starting should also stand up because I have given them my confidence to start a match."

On the club's official website Neeskens added: "As coaches, we can prepare the team as much as possible before a game but the moment the players step onto the field of play, they also have to take some responsibility as well

"In our last game I saw a lot of players in the team not going in with the necessary confidence. Maybe it's because of the bad results of late, but we still need to show the commitment.

"I don't expect the players to play brilliantly all of a sudden - that's not what I ask but, all I want is the commitment, the desire as an individual and also as a team."
