Mweene: Friendly wins motivated us

Cape Town - Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene says that the friendly games against Black Leopards and Highlands Park helped them keep active when there were no league games being played.

Sundowns won both matches 2-0, Mogakolodi Ngele scored twice as they beat Leopards, while Khaya Shozi and Surprise Moriri grabbed the goals against Highlands Park.

Sundowns have had a disappointing start to the season, losing on penalties to Bloemfontein Celtic in the MTN8 quarter-finals, before starting the league with a goalless draw against Platinum Stars.

With a fourteen day gap between their last game and the next one this Saturday against Bidvest Wits, Mweene says these friendlies have been much needed.

"It's always good to keep fit when the season has started," Mweene said.

"You know almost every team is keeping active during this time and yes, friendly games helped us keep active.

"We played very well and winning also motivated us as we continue the preparations for the season which has only just started."
