Cape Town - Mamelodi Sundowns striker Katlego Mphela will forfeit 25 percent of his salary for the next three months for going AWOL, according to a City Press report.
Mphela was charged, inter alia, with being AWOL from 20 January until 15 February 2011 and for breaching his contract by making various adverse comments in the media without following proper channels, the club in a statement said.
Mphela pleaded guilty to all the charges but the club refused to reveal details of the punishment.
City Press reveals that Mphela will be paid only for the days he trained meaning the R62 500 deduction will commence at the end of March and the last will be at the end of May.
It is further clarified in the report that according to the country's basic conditions of employment act, an employer is prohibited from deducting more than 25 percent of an employee's salary in one month, which explains why Sundowns could only go as far as deducting a quarter of Mphela's salary on a monthly basis.
