Mphela targets Golden Boot

Johannesburg - Mamelodi Sundowns striker Katlego Mphela tells Football365.co.za he is aiming to be the top scorer in the PSL again.

Last season 'Killer' took the honours with 17 league goals to his name and although he admits it will be tougher to repeat the feat, he is confident he has the firepower to do it again.

"My plan is to score more goals than I scored last season," says the Bafana Bafana striker.

"But my main aim is to help Sundowns win the league title, that's first priority".

"I know it will be difficult for me because the opponents will be focusing on me, because last season I was the league's top scorer - it will be a normal reaction from them.

"I'm not saying I'm going to be the top scorer again, but I expect to see myself score more goals than I did last season. I know it will be difficult for me this season and it is going to be a big challenge repeating what I did last season, but I have raised the bar and I must keep up with it," adds the Brits-born striker.

Mphela has also challenged team-mates Mabhuti Khenyeza and new signing Nyasha Mushekwi to score 10 goals each this season.

"Imagine if all the three of us score at least 10 goals for the team. Both guys have started well scoring two goals each in the league and I'm on one goal at the moment so it appears we have all started well and we are sharing the responsibility of scoring goals for the team. It can only be good for the team if myself, Mabhuti and Nyasha are all scoring and the other strikers in the team when they get their chance they can do the same," he says.

"As for me the good thing is I have the other strikers to take the pressure off me because I suspect I will be given a lot of attention by the PSL defenders," Mphela adds.
