Mphela: We have lost out

2010-02-22 12:40

Johannesburg - Mamelodi Sundowns striker Katlego Mphela has admitted that SuperSport have the PSL title all but wrapped up.

The Brazilians came back to draw their postponed game with Moroka Swallows 3-3 on Friday night after trailing by two goals when the lights went out at the Super Stadium on Wednesday.

While it was a valiant effort from the Chloorkop outfit, 'Killer' feels it wasn't enough to put the league leaders on the back foot.

"I don't think we should blame anyone for our failure to win the championship but ourselves," he told Sowetan.

"It was crucial for us to beat Moroka Swallows but we didn't. We conceded a goal which killed us off.

"Honestly, I don't see us winning the league now and SuperSport are the deserving winners. There's no shame losing out to them since they have been playing well and are deserving winners."

Downs are four points adrift of Matsatsantsa, with two fixtures remaining in the season. If SuperSport win their next game against Wits, they will be guaranteed a third successive championship.

Sundowns, Pirates and Chiefs should hang their heads in shame that they have collectively allowed Supersport, a team run on a shoe-string budget, to capture the league 3 times in a row. Standards a dropping the country over and we need to stop the rot and strive for excellence. Congratulations to Gavin Hunt and his boys though for doing the simple thing.

Agreed. Poor organisation at the other clubs. If Sundowns had the organisational structure of SSU they would be unbeatable. KC and OP would also do a whole lot better. I also think basic ball skills are lacking. First touch, passing, striking and set pieces are not up to stratch. On another point where is all the money going considering ours is supposed to be the 10th richest league in the world? Dr Khoza please explain?

thabo. supersport is not run on a tiny budget, they get a share on your dstv payment. on top of that they have been winning the league for the past two seasons.pirates and chips are the a shame to the not sundowns. downs are a deserving runner up for the league and as a downs suppoter i walk tall as we stand to loose the league to the giant champions.they desrve it , they played much better than any team this season and its wasnt because they were lucky but bcos they are champs.so i urge u to stand up cos the champ is here

I am seating here salivating the prospect of winning the league tomorrow. Wits, or the students as they are affectionately known, indeed, are somewhat a stumbling block against Matsatsantsa. Well, we hope that Matsatsantsa won't drop the ball come tomorrow. It would actually set a nostaligic mood going to the weekend. What a fitting achievement, given a very daunting task that lay ahead of you, lads. It was an overly demanding season mainly because of the number of games played in a short space of time. Congrats once more
