More misery for Kaizer Chiefs

2012-04-17 22:14

Johannesburg - Maritzburg United piled more misery on Kaizer Chiefs as they stole a 1-0 win to dent the Chiefs' Premiership aspirations in Polokwane on Tuesday night.

The sides were deadlocked at 0-0 at the interval.

Cuthbert Malajila broke Amakhosi with a 76th minute strike scored against the run of play when the KwaZulu-Natal outfit looked to be settled with a point from the stalemate.

This is United's first victory of the year having drawn five and lost four of their previous nine encounters, with their last win coming in December.

It moved them away from the relegation danger zone area as they move up three places to 10th on the log with 29 points.

Meanwhile, it's a second successive defeat for Chiefs having lost by the same scoreline at the weekend to Free State Stars in the Nedbank Cup, at the same venue.

More upsetting for the side's management is that they both came under caretaker coaches, Donald Khuse and Doctor Khumalo, after parting ways with Vladimir Vermezovic last Thursday.

Chiefs face a rare season without having won a trophy, the last being in 2002.

With six games left in the campaign, Chiefs are fourth on the table with 40 points - six below log leading Mamelodi Sundowns and second-placed Orlando Pirates.

It was a disjointed Chiefs display, with little improvement from the side which played Stars in the Nedbank Cup on Saturday.

They had opted to start with the more offensive Lucky Baloyi in the middle of the park ahead of Tinashe Nengomasha, while captain Itumeleng Khune returned in goal after two weeks out with injury.

Khune was tested as early as the third minute as Kurt Lentjies found the woodwork from a free kick on the edge of the box.

This was United's only meaningful chance of the first 45 minutes, while they played one man up front with top striker Diyo Sibisi starting from the bench.

Though, the home team could have taken a lead through Dominic Isaacs, who's shot was cleared off the line a few moments later.

Siphiwe Tshabalala found the side netting midway through with Abia Nale shaving the upright with a cracking shot in the 34th minute.

The second half started off sedately as United looked to settle for the draw to add to their 11 draws accumulated this season.

Chiefs fashioned a chance on the hour mark as Nale crossed for substitute S'thembiso Ngcobo, who was tackled as he was about to take a shot.

Then the Team of Choice squeezed in the crucial winner to leave the hosts frantically surging forward for an equaliser.

Even Khune went forward to take a free kick on the edge of the box, which sailed narrowly wide while Isaacs headed wide with the last play of the game from a set piece.

United also lost in the knockout competition to Sundowns on Saturday.

The problem is team managing director.not the coach or the players.how can you sell out the best, experience players and after that you buy inexperience players, you expect the coach to do his best with such players.no income for amakhosi this season.all cups are gone.best players gone.coach gone.only supporters left.pls mr k motaung do something.fix these problolem before next season.start buying defence players.khosi 4 life.thanx.

thats what you get 4 sacking the coach at exactly the most important time of the entire season, when vlad was still on course 4 the double! they will continue losing. well done to chiefs management, great job guys!

The current chiefs lack ambition....now we can clearly see the problem was not VV but these cows we call players.

  • Andrew - 2012-04-18 07:29

Hahahaha...I'm rolling on the floor laughing on behalf of VV

  • Sinobomi - 2012-04-18 09:12

When it rains it pours. U do not fire a coach at this time of the season esp. ingenzanganto but with no materiel to work with. Wack strikers Wack defence without Shabba and Letsolonyane F*cked Midfield suka Kaizer Chiefs is dead until Bobby and Kaizer learn to spend money on quality not quantity

  • Lu - 2012-04-18 10:13

I have always said VV is de best coach in the PSL but unfortunately he had to work with ordinary players. I think Chiefs Management mis the plot by sacking VV instead of sacking Mr. Bobby Motaung irrespective of whether he applied for the job or not. Chiefs will go no where under this crook manager. I m Khosi fan but the problem at chiefs is Bobby. I mean why did u make Gert leave, Mathebula, Masenamela, Nahayo, Musona while you knw very well that you will replace them with craps. At them moment Chiefs get what they deserve and hopefully chiefs entire management will wake up for a change because they are in a comfort zone because they guarantee revenue every game chiefs play since chiefs is far supported team in this country. *sad but true*

  • mzijimmym - 2012-04-18 10:45

It was said: May 2011:" Chiefs are cup specialists, they will take everthing on offer. February 2012, Chiefs will will the double, Marchl 2012 Chiefs will win the league, April 2012 its still possible for Chiefs to win,so waar mense van Naturena never give up!

  • chris.mngoma - 2012-04-18 12:39

relax makhosi management must hunt the coach, prepare for next season, because there is no consistancy whether we like it on not, out of six matches that is left we will have 2 wins 2draws and two loses. so whats the point give everybody a chance to prove them selves as we gave to coaches

  • chris.mngoma - 2012-04-18 12:43

khosi must forget about winning anything, they must concetrate in getting quality players, the coach, appoint new team manager and prepare for coming season and buy Bobby Motuong Kaizer Chiefs T-Shirt maybe he will improve

I think VV was the best looking at he was using & again you can't have three KC kids coaching a big club like this one together because they will fight over power so the sooner they find a coach the better for next season.my suggestion is they offload players who are of no use & buy quality not only from Zim please Bobby.
