Moon heroics save Arrows

Johannesburg - A second half hat-trick form Bryce Moon saw Golden Arrows come from two goals behind to beat AmaZulu 3-2 in an Absa Premiership match played at the Chatsworth Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

For a local derby the game started in a rather tame manner as neither side looked to eager to attack. Instead, both teams seemed content to pass the ball around the back and in the midfield, neither really looking to take a chance.

That fact, however, changed in the 15th minute when Bryce Moon came close to breaking the deadlock with a powerful 18-yard shot that skimmed the top side of the crossbar.

The scare of conceding seemed to awaken AmaZulu and two minutes later they did find the game’s first goal.

A sublime pass from Sibusiso Hadebe on the right wing saw Lehlohonolo Majoro in space 12-yards out from goal and the Usuthu’s top goal scorer made no mistake with a clinical finish into the bottom left-hand corner of the goal, 1-0.

Eight minutes later Majoro found his 13th goal of the season and his side’s second of the game. This time the AmaZulu striker let loose with a powerful 18-yard shot that sailed past the keeper and into the left corner of the net yet again, 2-0.

Arrows tried to find their way back into the game, but their shooting was woeful and they failed to really test the AmaZulu keeper. One such example was in the 37th minute when Siyabonga Nkosi fired a shot from 20-yards, but saw his effort sail over the crossbar.

The score remained 2-0 in favour of Usuthu at the half time break.

The second half, though, did see the home side fight their way back into the match and they quickly pulled a goal back in the 52nd minute. Finally, Arrows were able to get a shot on goal as Thamsanqa Gabuza let loose with a powerful shot from 18-yards.

AmaZulu’s keeper Nhlanhla Khuzwayo, however, was at hand to block the shot, but he only succeeded in parrying the shot straight into the path of Moon. He did not hesitate to side-foot the ball home from six-yards out to reduce the deficit, 2-1.

13 minutes later and Moon found his second goal of the game as he drew his side level. The Arrows man displayed his prowess in front of goal with a deadly header from six-yards out 2-2.

With the scores level it was any side’s game to win, but the hero of the day completed his side’s comeback when Moon scored his third goal in the 74th minute.

A long ball from the back by Helton Da Rocha saw Moon break the off-side trap and with only the keeper to beat. He made no mistake with a clinical finish to give his side the lead for the first time in the match, 3-2.

That is the way the scoreline remained as Arrows picked up the three points and are still stand a narrow chance of making the top eight.
