Moholo changes his surname

Maritzburg - Maritzburg United fans shouldn’t be confused when they see two Mekoas on the team sheet after the club confirmed on Tuesday that Manti Moholo had changed his surname to Mekoa.

“He is no longer Manti Moholo but Manti Mekoa,” club spokesperson Brian Zuma was quoted by KickOff on Tuesday.

“It’s a family issue and we have been told that is the new surname for the player, so we don’t have to ask questions that much ... it’s a family thing.

The website also reported that the Team of Choice are nearing completing a permanent deal for national Under-23 defender Kwanda Mngonyama from Mamelodi Sundowns. The player spent last season with United on loan, and did well enough for the club to look to take him on full time.

Coach Mandla Ncikazi was also confident about the return of influential midfielder Kurt Lentjies, who was forced out of the Jomo Cosmos game due to injury.

Siyabulela Shai is another player Ncikazi has been raving about, telling The Witness earlier this week that the youngster should add value to the squad.

United play Ajax Cape Town at the Cape Town Stadium on Saturday evening hoping to pick up their first win of the season.
