Middendorp given mandate

Port Elizabeth - Following the appointment of Ernst Middendorp, Chippa United Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Peter Koutroulis revealed that the Chilli Boys’ main objective is to avoid being relegated at the end of the 2014/15 AbsaPremiership season.

The German-born coach joined the PSL rookies last month following the departure of Roger Sikhakhane.

Koutroulis, in an exclusive interview on Tuesday, confirmed to Sport24 that Middendorp’s mandate is to save the team from being relegated to the National First Division (NFD).

“Yes we want to remain in the Premier Soccer League,” Koutroulis said.

“He must save the club from being relegated.

“That’s our primary concern, to stay in the top flight football.

“If it happens we finish inside the top 8, top 6 or top 4, that would be a bonus for us.

“But Ernst Middendorp’s mandate is to make sure that we compete in the Absa Premiership next season.”

The Port Elizabeth-based outfit are currently on the 8th spot on the log after 17 games played.

They will begin the new part of the season without their prolific striker, David Zulu, who joined Kaizer Chiefs in December, when they face the University of Pretoria away from home in their next league encounter next week Tuesday.
