Mhlongo’s Polokwane future uncertain

Cape Town - Veteran midfielder Benson Mhlongo’s future with Polokwane City is uncertain with the former Orlando Pirates man having seen little game time over the last season.

Mhlongo’s contract is also up at the club and he is waiting to hear if he will be offered a new deal.

A Sport24 source at the club said the team is weighing up options on Mhlongo, who is among the senior players at the club.

“He saw little game time this past season and our coach Kosta Papic prefers to have certain players for his team, and Mhlongo does not fall in that category,” the source said.

“However, his experience is also another factor, as some people within the club feel he should be given a role outside the field.”

City is also working on finalising deals for new players as the technical team wants to strengthen the squad, as well as keeping their key players such as Cole Alexander and Puleng Tlolane.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
