Mhlongo wants titles at Stars

Rustenburg - Platinum Stars defender Benson Mhlongo says his club reaching the semi finals of the MTN8 is good for the team but not quite adequate for him as an individual.

The former Wits skipper was on target for Dikwena when they gave Free State Stars a 3-0 humbling in the quarter-finals at the Royal Bafokeng Sports Palace last Saturday to book a place in the last four for the first time in their history.

“It means a lot to us as a team to reach the semi finals of the competition for the first time, but to me it is not enough. I still want to go all the way and win the title," Mhlongo told Sport24 on Friday.

Mhlongo, 33, joined Dikwena at the beginning of last season from Orlando Pirates and has been very influential to the Tycoons due to his experience.

The Alexandra-born midfielder also revealed that his team-mates are ready for their next instalment of the R8m tournament against Wits.

“It is going to be a tough game. They (Wits) are a tough team to play against and we are going to play them twice but we are up for the challenge”.

The former Bafana Bafana ace is optimistic that Stars can continue where they left off last season when they finished second to reigning PSL champions Kaizer Chiefs under then coach, Cavin Johnson, now at the helm of SuperSport United.

“For me personally, I would like to reach my full potential and pass the knowledge that I have to the young players. For us as a team I would like to see us having some silverware at the end of the season and we are determined to do better than what we did last season”.

Platinum stars will lock-horns against Wits in a two-legged encounter with the first leg scheduled for August 25 at the Royal Bafokeng Sports Palace.

Kick-off is at 15:00
