Cape Town - Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Brighton Mhlongo is on the road to recovery following a successful knee operation.
The 24-year-old suffered damage to his Anterior Cartilage Ligament in his side's 1-0 defeat to SuperSport United last week and it was initially suggested he could be back in action within six to eight weeks.
However, it seems the Bafana Bafana international is facing up to ten weeks on the sidelines, provided his recovery goes according to plan.
A statement on the club's official website read: "Mhlongo is expected to make full recovery from his injury. The duration of his recovery has been extended to between 8 and 10 weeks."
Mhlongo was discharged from hospital on Saturday and while he has emerged as a key player for the Pirates in recent times, his absence will not cause too much concern due to the squad's strength in depth.
Siyabonga Mpontshane and Felipe Ovono will battle it out for a starting place in the Bucs line-up, starting with Tuesday night's clash with Chippa United at Orlando Stadium.
