Matlaba set for comeback

Cape Town - Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana full back Thabo Matlaba tells Sport24 that he will resume full training with the team on Monday, August 24.

There were reports after he was pulled off in the 68th minute of their 1-0 win against Tunisia’s CS Sfaxien in a Caf Confederations Cup Group B clash that he will be out of action for a period of three to four weeks, which the 27-year-old vehemently refutes saying he is perfectly fine and will resume full training next week.

“I am fine. I am normal now, no pain nothing,” Matlaba said.

“I will resume full training with the team next week from Monday in preparations for the game’s against Bloemfontein Celtic,” Matlaba added.

Matlaba missed the side’s last five league and cup matches and he had Patrick Phungwayo and recently Ayanda Gcaba deputizing for him at left-back.

It will be interesting to see if he immediately walks into the starting line-up as many would expect given how the aforementioned duo have performed in his absence.
