Mashego says sky is the limit

Cape Town - Mamelodi Sundowns striker Katlego Mashego said the prospects of his club lifting the Premiership title at the end of the season were still good.

Sundowns, who are currently fifteen points behind Chiefs, encountered similar circumstances last season, when Chiefs were in the driving seat at this stage of the campaign.

However, the early Amakhosi dominance was a followed by mass capitulation towards the business end of the campaign and Sundowns eventually usurped them at the top of the Premiership standings.

Mashego expects this season to follow a similar script, even though it essentially means that Bafana Ba Style will have to produce a flawless second half.

"Yes it's true we are trailing at the moment but it's far from over," Mashego told Soccer Laduma.

"We have drawn a lot of games than we have lost and if we had won those games we could have been talking a different story now," added Mashego.

The one aspect about this Sundowns team, which makes them such a formidable force in the Premiership, is the considerable depth within the squad. Mashego feels that is something which will certainly stand his team in good stead as the season progresses, especially during what is expected to be a busy schedule in 2015.

"But with the players we have, we can change that in the new year and do well. I know the team we are competing with now (Chiefs) is in good form and playing well but a league is a marathon and we are still running it. We just have to up our game in the second half and do what we did last season and defend our title," he concluded.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
