Masalela earns strange red card

Cape Town – Despite not being an infield player, Orlando Pirates midfielder Lehlogonolo Masalesa was shown a red card.

According to Soccer Laduma, the 23-year-old was on the substitute’s bench when fourth official Daniel Bennett made the referee alert of what the player had said.

Bennet issued the player with a red card and now has to suffer the consequences with sitting out of the next two domestic games.

The Buccaneers were knocked out of the MTN8 Cup courtesy of Ajax Cape Town at Orlando Stadium.

The encounter ended 1-0 as Ndiviwe Mdabuka’s goal was enough to see the Mother City outfit into the next round.

Meanwhile, Pirates are up against CS Sfaxien on Saturday, August 8 in a CAF Confederations Cup encounter.

Kick-off is at 20:15.
