Marques saw what was coming

Cape Town - Black Leopards coach, Zeca Marques, has hinted at a Swallows’ tactical oversight as the reason for his side’s 1-0 victory on Sunday.

The Dube Birds find themselves on the bottom of the playoff/relegation table with no chance of staying in the PSL. Marques has revealed that the predictability in Swallows’ game allowed his Leopards side to take control of the game in the first half.

"We knew Swallows would come here and want to defend," Marques said according to the official website of the PSL.

"They didn't want to lose the game, that would have been their priority.”

Referring to the second half, Marques suggested that Swallows changed their approach and tried to attack, but to no avail.

"I think the players were a bit nervous and Swallows also realised that they had to take the game to us.

"That's what they did, but fortunately defensively we were well organised. After we contained them for that long, eventually they started losing hope and we just grew in confidence as the game went on."

Lidoda Duvha have played all their games and now top the table with seven points, three above Cosmos. Ezenkosi still have to play against a Swallows side that will be dejected after losing out in what has been a lengthy relegation battle for them.

With Cosmos and Leopards sitting on equal goal difference, Ezenkosi are in the driving seat and Marques admits that it is now a waiting-game for him.

"The fact is that we won. We'll just have to sit back now, wait and see what happens between Jomo and Swallows."

Swallows host Cosmos on Wednesday, 3 June, in a game that the fans in Thohoyandou will be keeping a close eye on.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
