Marques salutes soaring Birds

Johannesburg - Following their second victory of the season, Moroka Swallows coach Zeca Marques has praised his soaring players for their tremendous effort against AmaZulu on Wednesday night.

Swallows defeated Usuthu 2-1 in an entertaining PSL clash played at the Dobsonville stadium courtesy of Lerato Chabangu and Luvhengo Mungomeni strikes.

The win took the strugglers from last season to the summit of the table, which has delighted the Portuguese-born tactician.

"Once again it was a great team effort," said Marques.

"Obviously we took our chances exceptionally well.

"AmaZulu also had their four clear-cut chances.

"But the Gods are just smiling down at us.

"We just have to make the most out of it."

Nigerian international goalkeeper, Greg Etafia, kept the Dube Birds in the game once again with his heroic performance, which brought concern from his mentor.

The 'Lollipop' sighted weaknesses within the Swallows defence which give the opposition more opportunities from which to capitalise from.

"It’s obviously our concern to stop giving the opposition so many chances.

"We are really working on it.

"This is an on-going process.

"I am not happy that our opposition are getting more chances which always keep our goalkeeper busy."

Swallows will be looking to keep their momentum flourishing when they host the struggling Mamelodi Sundowns next week Wednesday.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
