Maritzburg to fix scoring woes

Pietermaritzburg - With a week left before the resumption of the PSL, Maritzburg United spokesperson Brian Zuma has revealed that the club’s main concern at the moment is to amend on their goal scoring problems which cost them a maximum tally of six points from their last two games before the festive break.

The Team of Choice endured back-to-back defeats against Polokwane City and Mamelodi Sundowns back in December due to their failure to convert their chances.

In an exclusive interview with Sport24 on Wednesday, Zuma confirmed that the Kwazulu-Natal based outfit intend to keep the same squad for the remainder of the 2014/15 season but head coach, Steve Komphela's primary objective is to find solutions in front of goal heading to their next game against Wits.

“There are no player movement at the moment, except for the two reserve team players who were loaned out,” said Zuma.

“We intend to work with the same squad for the remainder of the season.

“At the moment we are trying to get our players fit for the next game against Wits.

“We want to improve on our scoring problems which we had towards the end of last year.

“We ended the 2014 calendar year dropping crucial points in our last two matches because we were failing to convert our chances.

“That is the coach’s main concern heading to the game against Wits but the players are really working hard on that aspect.”

Heading to this encounter, United are sitting on the seventh spot while the Clever Boys are on the third spot on the log.

The two sides will lock horns at the Harry Gwala stadium on Tuesday.

Kick-off is scheduled for 19:00.
