Pietermaritzburg - Ahead of their 2015/16 season opener against the defending champions Kaizer Chiefs, Maritzburg United’s newly appointed head coach Mandla Ncikazi has said that the best time to face the Glamour Boys is at the beginning of the season.
The Team of Choice will begin their season against the Amakhosi in the MTN8 quarter-finals at the FNB stadium next week Wednesday.
The 46-year-old tactician believes that facing his former mentor Steve Komphela, now in charge of Chiefs, will be a big motivation for the KwaZulu-Natal based outfit.
Ncikazi also fired a strong warning to the Soweto giants, citing that his troops will have a few surprises for them heading into the encounter.
“Playing against Kaizer Chiefs in the first game will be a big motivation for our players,” said Ncikazi
“They (Chiefs) are one of the best clubs in the continent without doubt and again we are going to compete with our former coach Steve Komphela who is also my former mentor.
“I respect him because he is a true professional but coming to the game Chiefs are not invincible to be honest.
“Steve (Komphela) is still new at Chiefs and he still has to implement a new philosophy at the club.
“And I believe that if you want to do well against Chiefs, you have to play them early in the season.
“So I think that we’ll have few surprises for them come the match day.”
