Maritzburg edge the Birds

Cape Town - Maritzburg United moved further clear of the Absa Premiership’s relegation zone with a narrow 1-0 win over Moroka Swallows at the Harry Gwala Stadium on Friday night.

Thokozani Sekotlong scored the only goal of the game in the fourth minute, capitalising on an assist from Orlando Smeekes.

The result sees Maritzburg move up to 13th place on the log on 20 points, having opened a four-point buffer to the relegation zone. Swallows have dropped out of the top eight and now find themselves in ninth on 23 points.

The Team of Choice will next be in league action when they host Free State Stars on March 11, while the Birds hosts Bloemfontein Celtic two days earlier.
