Johannesburg - Maritzburg United ran out 2-0 winners over Bloemfontein Celtic in their Premiership match at their alternative home venue of Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth on Wednesday.

A goal in either half helped the KwaZulu-Natal outfit to valuable win as they attempt to push for a top eight finish at the end of this season.

In a hard-fought encounter, with the referee dishing out five yellows cards, the home side dominated the encounter with six shots on target.

A poor Celtic outfit did not test Francis Chansa in the Maritzburg goal for the entire duration of the match.

The Team of Choice opened the score after 38 minute through their mercurial Nigerian forward Prince Olomu.

They doubled their margin in the 73rd minute penalty converted by midfielder Kurt Lentjies.

Celtic captain Thabo Nthethe fouled Cuthbert Malajila inside the box, a result that saw United cement their victory and three points.

They remain in 11th place with 23 points after 19 games.

Phunya Sele Sele drop to ninth on the log with their seventh loss and now carry 26 points after 19 matches played.
