Maritzburg clip Birds' wings

Johannesburg - Two goals in the final few minutes took Maritzburg United to third in the PSL standings as they edged 10-man Moroka Swallows 3-1 on Saturday evening.

Cuthbert Malajila put the Team of Choice ahead after 18 minutes, although Gilbert Mapemba was able to respond for the hosts eight minutes later.

However, the Dube Birds' full-back soon turned from hero to villain as he received a straight red card for a dangerous challenge on Ruben Cloete.

Terrence Mandaza then went on to head the visitors back in front with three minutes remaining, while Frank Gyamfi put the game beyond all doubt in injury-time as he fired home from the edge of the area.

Zeca Marques' men finished the day 10th in the standings with 14 points from 12 games, while Maritzburg went three points behind Orlando Pirates and a further one adrift of leaders Kaizer Chiefs.
