Maritzburg acted like 'Santa Claus'

Cape Town – Steve Komphela was frustrated that his Maritzburg United side acted as a "Santa Claus" in their defeat to Kaizer Chiefs.

According to Soccer Laduma, Maritzburg suffered their fourth loss of the season and believes his side gave away too much possession.

“We were Santa Claus for Sundowns,” said Komphela.

“My heart is sore. In the first half we gave away too much possession.

“The result of losing the ball after defence is the culmination of counter-attacks because if you win the ball from the opponent and you cannot come out you will forever stay pinned in your own box.”

Maritzburg now find themselves in sixth position but could go further down the PSL standings depending on Wednesday night’s results.

If Chippa United and Mpumalanga Black Aces both win their encounters against Platinum Stars and Bloemfontein Celtic respectively it would see Team of Choice drop two places.

Komphela will lead his charges for the last time this year on Saturday, December 20 when they face Polokwane City at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium.

Kick-off is at 20:15.
