Cape Town - Marks Maponyane says that Kermit Erasmus and Lehlohonolo Majoro would still be his first choice strikers at Orlando Pirates despite the signing of Tendai Ndoro and the strong form of Thamsanqa Gabuza.
The country’s most recognisable football analyst was a lethal striker in his day and believes that the only way to succeed in such a demanding position is to focus completely on your own game.
“As a striker it should be a question of not caring how many new signings there are each season you just have to make sure that you are fit,” Maponyane told Sport24.
When asked who he thought Eric Tinkler should put his trust in to lead the line, Maponyane suggested that Ndoro and Gabuza still have a long way to go.
“Clearly it is still Erasmus and Majoro for now, I cannot speak about the new signing but from where Ndoro left off last season he can definitely do better than that.”
It will be interesting to see who Tinkler goes with on Sunday when the Buccaneers host Egyptian giants, Zamalek, in a CAF Confederation Cup group stage game.
The game takes place at 15:00 at the Mbombela Stadium in Mpumalanga on the 12th of July.
