The Sea Robbers took a big step towards qualifying for the lucrative group stage of the competition by winning the fixture, grabbing two away goals and keeping a clean sheet in the process.

Goals from Manyisa himself and Thamsanqa Gabuza ensure the Buccaneers take a big advantage in the return leg at Orlando Stadium next month.

"What won us the game is the character we showed," he told Soccer Laduma

"We showed true fighting character and from the word go we wanted to win the game.

"We knew that an away win would put us at an advantage to win at home and qualify for the group stages.”

The CAF Confederation Cup represents Pirates last hope of silverware this season after a disappointing domestic campaign left them fourth in the Premiership.
