Manyisa: Bucs are favourites

Cape Town - They haven't done it since the 2011/12 season, but captain Oupa Manyisa believes that Orlando Pirates have what it takes in 2015/16 to wrestle back the PSL title from Soweto rivals Kaizer Chiefs.

An even more concerning statistic for Bucs is that they have finished both of the last two seasons in fourth place behind Chiefs, Mamelodi Sundowns and Bidvest Wits.

But now, under the guidance of former Bafana Bafana star Eric Tinkler, Manyisa believes that things are about to change.

"Every team has the right to think they have the best chance to win the championship; everyone has strengthened their teams and and we will all be better than we were last season," Manyisa told Sport24.

"The favourites are Orlando Pirates, in my humble opinion. I think we have the strongest and most balanced team of all. At the end of the day, it all boils down to what we do on the field when we face our rivals but I am very positive about our league chances this season."

The last few years can't have been easy for Bucs supporters, particularly last year when Chiefs were miles ahead of any other team in the country.

But Manyisa refuses to focus solely on the Glamour Boys.

"While Chiefs are historically our biggest rival, we have 14 other teams that we compete with," he said.

"When we begin our season our goal is not to better one team but to be the best team we can possibly be and achieve our set goals."

This season Oupa Manyisa will be wearing the evoSPEED SL boots from PUMA, the same boots worn by international football stars Sergio Agüero, Marco Reus, Radamel Falcao, Marco Verratti and Antoine Griezmann

Orlando Pirates open their PSL account when they travel to Gordon Igesund's SuperSport United on August 11.
