Ajax Cape Town’s Lebogang Manyama says that they got the better of Kaizer Chiefs in their Absa Premiership match on Wednesday night because they stuck to the game plan implemented by coach Muhsin Ertugral.
Manyama was named ‘Man of the Match’ for his brace that saw the Urban Warriors beat Chiefs 3-1 and consequently hand the league leaders only their second defeat of the season.
Manyana admits it was a challenging encounter but it was not one where they were prepared to sit back and be walked over.
“It was a tough game, but we came with a plan and we are only the second team to beat these guys in the league,” said Manyama.
“They are the best team this season and we had to stick to our pattern to play against them.
“Credit must be given to them, they gave us a run for our money but this is Cape Town and we had to show them and give it our all.
“We had a plan and the coach told us to stick to the plan and obviously it worked.”
The win for Ajax saw them out of the relegation zone into 14th place on the table with 27 points from their 28 league games, three clear of 15th placed Chippa United and four clear of Black Leopards (although Leopards do have a game in hand).
One of the biggest turnarounds since Ertugral’s arrival at Ajax, which has seen them pick up four points from two games, is the amount of chances being created and goals being scored, and Manyama is fully aware of that.
“The coach says if you don’t get into the box you don’t get those chances. Credit to my teammates because their creation (of chances) was out of this world,” added Manyama.
