Malajila: We're itching for action

Cape Town - Mamelodi Sundowns will do battle against old foes Platinum Stars in the quarter-finals of the MTN8 and according Cuthbert Malajila this is definitely one to look forward to.

“After such a lengthy period of no serious footballing action, I can tell you now that all the players are itching for our first match of the season especially against a team like Platinum Stars,” said the explosive striker on Sundowns' website.

“You must also understand that this has been one of those tricky encounters for us and opening a season against them is a start straight from the blocks and we want to make it matter.”

Even when taking history between the two sides into account, the Zimbabwean burly marksman does not want to label the North West side a hoodoo team for The Brazillians, but rather says it will be difficult to predict Sundowns come Saturday.

“I wonder though if people will still talk about them (Stars) being the hoodoo team because we convincingly beat them last season. It will be an interesting affair though as both teams will go all out for a win.”

“Sometimes a test like this on the first day of the season is what a team needs to kick right into gear and get the season rolling.”

“One of the interesting things though for us as Mamelodi Sundowns is the fact we have signed well in the transfer market which makes it difficult to predict us.”

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
