Makola: Pirates come first

Cape Town - Orlando Pirates midfielder Mpho Makola insisted helping the team collect three points against Chippa United was more important than his brace.

According to the club’s official website, Makola came off the bench to net two superb goals to hand the Mighty Buccaneers their first win of the new league campaign.

Speaking after the game Makola said: “Tonight we achieved our main objective which was to collect our first win of the season. Following our defeat to SuperSport [United] it was important that we bounce back immediately.

“I am pleased with my performance tonight, but the most important thing is how we played as a team.

“At the end of the day it’s about what we achieve as a unit that counts.

“Hopefully we can carry this goal scoring form into our crucial match against Leopards over the weekend,” he concluded.

The Buccaneers are set to be pushed to the limit when they host to AC Leopards in their CAF Confederations Cup on Saturday, August 22.

Leopards come into this encounter knowing that nothing less than a victory will be enough while Eric Tinkler and his men will secure a semi-final berth if they win or draw on Saturday.

Kick-off is at 18:00.
