The Buccaneers saw their bitter Soweto rivals romp to a MTN8 and league double this term, while Pirates themselves will finish the campaign empty-handed after failing in their Nedbank Cup title defence.

And while Makola believes Amakhosi were worthy winners, he has urged Pirates to take stock from their performances and come back stronger in the new season.

"They are our direct competition whether we like it or not, but I have to say they had a great season, and they basically wrapped up the title in the first half of the season," he is quoted as saying by KickOff.

"We have to learn from this season and make sure we improve in the next."
