Durban - AmaZulu stretched their unbeaten run to nine matches after Lehlohonolo Majoro netted a penalty in second-half injury time to save a 1-1 draw in an Absa Premiership clash against Bidvest Wits at Ulundi Stadium on Saturday.
The match started slowly and the first real shot was taken after AmaZulu's Ntokozo Shikhakhane brought down Sipho Mngomezulu in the 17th minute.
Stanton Fredericks took the free kick and passed to Junaid Mashamaite, who thundered in an effort that was saved by AmaZulu goalkeeper Mbongeni Mzimela.
Two minutes later the hosts fired back when Wits keeper Darren Keet was forced into action for the first time, keeping out a shot from Lehlohonolo Majoro.
Both sides attempted to break the deadlock in the dying minutes of the first half, with Keet blocking two efforts, from Tangeni Shipahu and Sibusiso Hadebe, within a minute.
In the last minute of injury time, Sifiso Vilakazi came close to giving the Students the lead when he connected with a corner from Stanton Fredericks, but he fired his header over the crossbar.
Wits retreated after the break and the hosts took control in the second half.
In the 56th minute Shikhakhane blasted a header over the bar from close range, and nine minutes later Keet saved a shot from Shipahu.
The visitors wasted a chance in the 72nd minute, however, when Muziwandile Khwela fouled Vilakazi in the goal area and Sifiso Myeni missed from the spot.
AmaZulu nonetheless remained in control and Keet was again called to action in the 81st minute when he blocked an effort from Marc van Heerden.
Wits broke through three minutes later on the counter attack when Myeni made up for his earlier blunder, latching onto a cross from Patrick Phungwayo and blasting a scorching shot into the back of the net to put the Students ahead.
Nine minutes later, however, Mashamaite was found to have handled the ball in the area and Majoro made no mistakes with a superb penalty to equalise for the hosts.
