Cape Town - Orlando Pirates defender Rooi Mahamutsa has credited his man of
the match performance on Saturday to his team-mates, who he says were a
big inspiration during his time out the starting XI.
The Buccaneers secured their place in the Telkom Knockout semi-finals this weekend after seeing off Ajax Cape Town 4-1 at a rain-swept Orlando Stadium, where Mahamutsa took home the match ball in what was his first start in eight matches.
The defender, who celebrated his 33rd birthday on Sunday, was clearly delighted with his personal performance, but admitted he could not have achieved it without the support of the team.
"It's not only for me, it's about the team and the teamwork and the encouragement they gave me all the time while I was not playing," he said.
"Coming back after so long, this is a nice present for me because (on Sunday) it's my birthday.
"The team needs me and I need the team. If you love the game of football, and if you love the team, you will do everything each and every time you get an opportunity.
Asked where his birthday party was going to be, Mahamutsa replied: "No, no, no, no, I can't tell you."
