Cape Town - Former Orlando Pirates player Edward ‘Magents’ Motale has praised Eric Tinkler for bringing back the Pirates of old.
Magents was part of Pirates’ famous Champions League winning squad, but he is pleased with more than just their good continental form.
Motale brimmed with pride as he spoke to Sport24 about the skills on display in the victory over AS Kaloum in the last round of the CAF Confed Cup.
"This is the Pirates I know, this is the South African football I know," he bragged.
"You can go anywhere and they will tell you . . . South African football culture is shibobo, tsamaya, vuvuzela."
Tinkler has received praise for the freedom that he appears to grant his players and Motale views this Pirates side in stark contrast to that of his Tinkler’s predecessor Vladimir Vermezovic.
"I don’t think that VV (Vermezovic) would even allow one skill from an individual in a game."
Pirates are in CAF Confed Cup action at 16:30 on Saturday when they take on AC leopards in Congo.
