Lucky: Pirates up for fight

Johannesburg - Lucky Lekgwathi is aware Orlando Pirates will have a bull's-eye on their back after being crowned MTN8 champions and has urged his team-mates to relish the challenge.

Bucs ended their ten-year wait to land major silverware at the start of the month and have vowed to kick on in the league.

However, their first test as a revived force is tackling a Mamelodi Sundowns side who have picked up maximum points in all four of their PSL outings this season.

Lekgwathi wants his men to put the MTN8 triumph behind them and focus on downing the high-flying Brazilians.

"(Coach Ruud) Krol was obviously happy with the cup, but was quick to warn us not to get too big-headed," he said.

"He has been getting us to concentrate on our next match and made us aware that we are now going to be targeted by other PSL teams."

Pirates are unbeaten in the league, but they have only managed to win their opening encounter against newcomers Vasco da Gama.

"The league is a marathon," added Lekgwathi. "But the coach was a bit worried that we only won our first match.

"The cup games were tougher than the league matches we have played so far, and we know we need to get those three points from Sundowns this weekend."

Pirates downed arch-rivals Kaizer Chiefs and Moroka Swallows en-route to lifting the cup and the skipper feels they will be on an "equal footing" with Sundowns, who overcame champions SuperSport in the league last month.
