Leopards, Chippa share spoils

Johannesburg - Black Leopards and newly-promoted outfit Chippa United played out to a 0-0 draw in their Premiership clash at the Peter Mokaba stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The draw sees United earn their first point of the new Premier Soccer League campaign, while Leopards move into sixth position on the log.

Chippa United took the game to their hosts in the early stages of the first half with a number of opportunities falling their way but failed to make them count.

Sbusiso Mnguni was the first to threaten the Leopards' goal as he fired his free-kick narrowly over Leopards goalkeeper Ayanda Mtshali's head, before Mxolisi Ntshingila cut inside from his flank but also shot over the bar.

Leopards looked intent on keeping men behind the ball and ensure the Chippa attackers had no space in their area, but Siphiwe Sithole should have given United the lead in the 23rd minute as he watched his headed effort go over the goalposts when he should have done better for the league minnows.

The visitors continued to press and maintained their pressure as chances fell to Diego Brown and Twala Bonkakele but both failed to convert their chances.

The best chance of the half fell to Brown, whose shot was tipped over in extra time by Mtshali, who was relieved to see the ball safely over the bar.

United came out of the break looking to keep Leopards pegged back and ensure they carried their first half performance with them in the second period.

Leopards in turn seemed to up their tempo as they went in search of an opener, with the action swinging from one end of the pitch to the other but neither side looked likely to score as time ran out.

The only chance of the second half fell to Leopards' Rodney Ramagalela, who broke the Chippa defence, but he was thwarted by goalkeeper Kassaly Daouda, who saved the shot to keep the scored locked and goalless after full-time.
