Lentjies backs Barker

Cape Town - Kurt Lentjies believes that Clive Barker is the right man to coach Maritzburg United.

According to the club’s website, Lentjies says that he hopes the former Bafana Bafana coach can turn things around at the Team of Choice after a dismal start to their 2015/16 campaign.

"There’s no introduction needed. He’s achieved some amazing things in football, so let’s hope he can achieve things here with this bunch of guys as well. We want to make him feel settled in as soon as possible,” said Lentjies on the arrival of Barker.

The Maritzburg playmaker says its going to be anything but easy against an Jomo Sono’s Exenkosi side, who have also had a tough start to the Absa Premiership season, when the two sides meet in a Telkom Knockout last 16 clash.

"Two top coaches against each other [Barker and Sono], but it’s going to have to be settled amongst the 11 players on the field, their 11 versus our 11. Of course we have Clive on our side and I’m sure that with the couple of days he has been here he will be able to motivate the guys, I’m looking forward personally to working with him,” said Lentjies.

"We have played Cosmos already at home, a 0-0 draw. This is a cup game so each team will be losing for a victory and to boost their confidence for the league.

"There are no easy games, I wouldn’t say this fixture comes at the right time like people may be thinking, the right game for a turn around.

"We tried to turn things around against Aces, didn’t happen, try to turn it around against Free State Stars, didn’t happen, against Bloem Celtic, didn’t happen, so there are no easy games in the PSL.

"We’ll just have to keep working hard and putting things right on the training ground.”

Kick-off is at 20:00 on Friday, October 2.
