Lekgwathi lauds Sea Robbers

Johannesburg - Orlando Pirates captain Lucky Lekgwathi applauded his side's performance at the weekend to secure a CAF Champions League win over FC Djabal.

According to the Football411.com website, the Sea Robbers claimed a 5-0 victory over Djabal in the first-leg of the preliminary round on Saturday night at the Orlando Stadium.

Takesure Chinyama scored four times after Sifiso Myeni had opened the scoring in the 25th minute, leaving Pirates with a healthy lead going into the second leg tie on the Comoros Islands on March 2.

"I would like to congratulate the guys for a job well done," Lekgwathi told the club's official website.

"We came into this match not knowing what to expect but what I am particularly pleased with, is the way we conducted ourselves throughout the ninety minutes.

"Once we were 2-0 up, instead of putting our foot off the pedal, we continued to apply pressure on our opposition. I'm particularly pleased with Takesure's performance... even though he had already scored a hat-trick, he was still hungry for more goals."

The veteran defender added: "We go into the second leg with a nice five-goal cushion but having said that, the job is not yet done. We will go to Comoros with the same mentality to win... we cannot afford to underestimate our opponents - this is the Champions League, and anything can happen.

"I am happy to see everyone in the team treating that game like a cup final. I hope they can continue much in the same vein in the remaining matches."

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
